It’s reasonable to assume that the post-pandemic period is obsessed with skincare trends. Even if you only use one cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen, the notion of skincare has matured significantly in recent years and has gained a devoted following. With each passing day, we find ourselves cruising easily across the seven seas with newer items, hip brands, and inventive trends all around the world.
Looking back, 2022 was a year filled with numerous new and re-invented skincare moments. Innovative skincare practices (such as slugging, skin fasting, and skin flooding) and products such as bakuchiol, vitamin C, and ceramides were prominent. So, what are the forecasts for 2023? The cards have spoken: here are six skincare trends to watch for in 2023.

Experts predict 6 skincare trends to watch for
Multi-tasking products
Since the epidemic, skin malism and reducing skincare regimes have been important priorities. This trend is expected to continue till 2023. With this in mind, we’ll see an increase in the usage of multi-tasking products—simplified skincare.
Commenting on this, Dr. Manasi Shirolikar, consultant dermatologist and creator of the online consulting company, says, ” I would be happy with the end of single-ingredient serums. It’s difficult enough to convince patients to follow a basic CTP (cleanse, treat, protect) regimen. If I have them do anything else, they’re more likely to abandon the routine. Moisturizers and serums containing 2/3/4 actives, as well as tinted sunscreens—I’m here for it all.
The only time I’d want a single ingredient serum is if the person I’m treating has sensitive skin and it’s easy to isolate the compounds that their skin can accept.”
The focus is on body care
Body care no longer has to be treated like a stepchild. Salicylic and glycolic acid, as well as retinol, are popular skincare chemicals that will make their way into your body care routine. “Skin is the greatest organ in our body, yet skincare has largely always concentrated on the face,” Dr. Shirolikar says.
Yet, there has recently been a greater emphasis on body care. Body acne can be treated with salicylic acid sprays, creams, and body washes.
Similarly, glycolic acid treatments are available for body pigmentation, retinol lotions are available to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and lactic acid products can reduce the look of strawberry legs.”
Hybrids of makeup and skincare
Makeup-infused skincare first appeared in 2022, but it’s set to take off this year. Foundations and concealers that treat while leveling out your skin tone, primers that prep and hydrate—hybrid products are an excellent method to pamper your skin while wearing makeup.
“This has to be the biggest beauty-skincare trend in 2023,” Dr. Shirolikar predicts. “It started with tinted sunscreens and progressed to firms like Supergoop making SPF eyeshadows. With hyaluronic acid and even glycolic acid being utilized in hair care products, even hair was not spared. As the line between skincare and cosmetics becomes increasingly blurred, this is the obvious next step for the business.
All skincare fans will appreciate it. It will allow them to have a more effective and limited routine.”
A combination of lasers
In the ever-evolving landscape of aesthetic procedures, the strategic combination of laser treatments has emerged as a sophisticated approach to address various skin concerns comprehensively. Laser mixing, characterized by the layering or combining of different laser operations, represents a nuanced and advanced methodology that goes beyond conventional standalone treatments. Among the myriad combinations gaining prominence, a few stand out for their effectiveness and versatility.
One popular combination involves pairing an ablative laser, such as CO2 or Pixel, with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). The rationale behind this synergy lies in the dual impact on skin rejuvenation. Ablative lasers work by removing the outer layers of skin, promoting collagen production, and reducing the visible signs of aging. Concurrently, PRP, derived from the patient’s blood, is rich in growth factors that further stimulate collagen synthesis and enhance tissue repair. The result is a powerful tandem that not only addresses existing concerns but also promotes long-term skin health and vitality.
Another noteworthy combination features Micro-Needle Radio Frequency (MNRF) alongside PRP. This dynamic duo presents a holistic approach, capitalizing on the benefits of controlled micro-injuries induced by MNRF and the regenerative properties of PRP. Dr. Shirolikar emphasizes the efficacy of this approach, noting that it maximizes the recuperative phase post-procedure. By strategically combining these modalities, practitioners aim to optimize the overall results while minimizing downtime for patients.
The trend of integrating multiple laser treatments within a single session, under the expertise of a professional, marks a significant shift in the approach to skincare. This approach allows for a comprehensive and tailored response to various skin concerns, ranging from fine lines and wrinkles to uneven skin tone and texture. It underscores a move towards personalized, results-driven skincare that takes advantage of the synergies between different technologies.
However, it is crucial to highlight that such advanced laser combinations should only be administered by qualified professionals in a clinical setting. The nuanced nature of these procedures requires a deep understanding of individual skin types, concerns, and the intricate interplay between different laser technologies.
The acid hypochlorous
In 2022, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide had their times; now it’s hypochlorous acid’s turn to shine. “Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid with potent antibacterial properties. It is also naturally created by our skin to combat infections. This acid is usually found in disinfectants, however, it may also be used in face cleansers when diluted (100 parts per million).
Hypochlorous acid, despite being a weak acid, possesses potent antibacterial capabilities. Intriguingly, our skin produces this acid naturally as part of its defense mechanism against infections. While commonly recognized for its role in disinfectants, its diluted form (100 parts per million) is making waves in the realm of face cleansers.
What sets hypochlorous acid apart is its suitability for individuals grappling with skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, or acne. Beyond its germ-killing prowess, this acid accelerates the recovery process, offering relief to those navigating the challenges of these skin concerns. The application of hypochlorous acid is not merely about addressing symptoms; it is about promoting healing from within, making it a valuable addition to skincare routines tailored for specific dermatological conditions.
One of the standout features of hypochlorous acid is its ability to alleviate itching. For individuals dealing with skin irritations, whether due to chronic conditions or occasional flare-ups, the soothing properties of hypochlorous acid provide a welcomed respite. This attribute contributes not only to the physical relief of discomfort but also to the overall improvement of skin health and comfort.
As skincare enthusiasts and professionals alike explore the potential of hypochlorous acid, it becomes evident that this unassuming compound carries significant promise. Its alignment with the body’s natural defense mechanisms, coupled with its antibacterial efficacy, positions it as a noteworthy player in the quest for healthier, more resilient skin.
At-home tech
In the rapidly evolving landscape of skincare, the integration of technology into at-home routines has become a revolutionary trend, providing enthusiasts with advanced tools to enhance their skincare regimens. While LED masks, cleansing brushes, and other at-home skincare devices have been on the market for some time, the beauty of technology lies in its perpetual innovation. In the coming year, the realm of at-home skincare technology is poised to witness significant advancements, bringing forth a new wave of possibilities for skincare enthusiasts.
What sets at-home skincare tech apart is its ability to bridge the gap between traditional skincare products and in-clinic procedures. Dr. Shirolikar, a prominent voice in the field, emphasizes the role of low-level LEDs as one of the most frequently utilized technologies in this domain. These LEDs find application not only in LED masks but also in innovative tools such as LED hair combs. The versatility of low-level LEDs lies in their ability to stimulate cellular activity, promoting collagen production and contributing to overall skin health.
One of the driving factors behind the popularity of at-home skincare tech is its convenience. As individuals increasingly seek effective solutions within the comfort of their homes, these technological advancements offer a practical and accessible means of achieving skincare goals. From addressing specific skin concerns to supporting general skin health, at-home devices empower users with a level of control and customization previously attainable through professional interventions.
Moreover, the ongoing convergence of technology and skincare has paved the way for intelligent devices that cater to individualized needs. These may include personalized skincare routines, guided by artificial intelligence algorithms, or devices that adapt to changing skin conditions over time. The marriage of technology and skincare not only democratizes access to advanced skincare but also fosters a deeper understanding of individual skin types and concerns.
As the at-home skincare tech landscape continues to evolve, it’s essential to emphasize the importance of informed and responsible use. While these devices offer exciting possibilities, users should be mindful of proper usage, adhere to guidelines provided by manufacturers, and seek professional advice when needed. The synergy between skincare professionals and at-home technology represents a harmonious blend, ensuring that individuals can harness the benefits of advanced skincare without compromising safety.
